Guest speakers Gerard Fitzgerald of the North Ballarat Roosters, Peter Eddy CEO of Ballarat Basketball, Sue Brown of Federation University Australia and Kim Bailey of AFL Goldfields joined a panel to discuss the importance of volunteers in community groups.
Discussion emerged from key community groups in attendance about the importance of club culture in their groups as well as what they can do to look after their current volunteers.
Justin Gary of Fed Uni FC was in attendance and only had praise for the breakfast. ‘We are completely run by volunteers at our club and it was great to get a broader understanding of how the speakers have managed volunteers in their careers’ Justin said.
For Fed Uni FC who has a high turnover of volunteers due to short study periods has had to create a strong culture to ensure the long-term success of the club both on the football field and off by being active in the community continues ‘We have a great amount of volunteers who without them would not be able to achieve what we have to date or in the long term future. We have been very lucky that our club culture has only strengthened over the years due to the leaders we have had’ Justin said.
Fed Uni FC is continuing to look for volunteers and would like students to contact us if they would like to play football or help out in any way. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact them via Facebook.
